The Race

I’m often asked ‘where do you get your inspiration from?’ The answer came to me immediately. I get my inspiration by walking through life with blinders on. You are probably thinking to yourself, ‘What the heck is that supposed to mean?’ Allow me to describe to you the type blinders that I am referring to.

I picture myself as a thoroughbred race horse. I make sure that before I bolt out of my stall my blinders are sitting securely by my eyes. When the gun fires and the gates open I know that I am prepared and ready to run the best race I can. Those blinders are an essential part of my daily race gear? They help keep my eyes focused on what lays directly in my path. I know and appreciate that there are others running alongside me, but how they decide to run their race is their own choice. I need to keep the distractions and noise that are constantly around us down to a minimum. There is no sure way of keeping all negative disturbances out of our race completely, but we can definitely equip ourselves to reduce some of the unnecessary commotion that can derail us from reaching the finish line.

These blinders keep my mindset in a positive state. It is this positive outlook that allows me to see inspiration everywhere. I simply just have to look out the window, read a quote, listen to music, go for a walk, be with friends and family, hold my cat or be invited to respond to a question posted on a friend’s blog. Inspiration is all around us. We just have to take the ‘emotional’ blinders off to see it. To me, life is not a ‘rat’ race. It’s the ‘horse’ race of all time. Welcome everyone…to the Kentucky Derby.
